This post was originally going to be about last week’s trip to the Azores Islands, specifically, São Miguel, the largest and most populated island. The weather is always milder in the Azores; it’s where the Portuguese go instead of Florida when they need to warm up their toes. Anyway, the plan was to fly down, rent a car, and just spend a couple of days doing a lap of the island, stopping whenever something looked interesting.
Mid-January we got word that the flight staff of TAP Airlines was going to hold a strike the last five days of the month, literally when we would be traveling. We immediately started trying to re-book or cancel our trip, and discovered that it was complicated. Being proactive was not doing us any favors because the airlines’ attitude was there is no strike unless there is a strike.
We tried to dance around it, play the odds, and so on, but in the end, we moved the trip entirely.
However, we now sit in Porto airport, on our way to a 10-day trip to Italy.
Stay tuned.
