Today was a rest day at Swallow Barn.
We started out with a drive to breakfast in Bude (Cornwall) at Urchins Bistro, where I had cream tea for the first time ever. It was SO GOOD; I would get so incredibly fat if I lived in a place that made clotted cream on a regular basis. The rest of the meal was fine, and I’d basically recommend it for breakfast, but the tea overwhelmed my memories completely, I admit. 🙂
We got kind of lost on the way home, taking a ‘short cut’ that turned out not to be.
And then we read and hung out. I had a bath, read for awhile.
Dinner was at The Horn of Plenty, which was also an inn. A lovely place, with lovely views, this was clearly the ‘fine dining’ place, and well deserved in its laurels. I started with the Vulscombe Goat’s cheese mousse with heritage beetroots, J. had the scallop. Each was tender and perfect. For his main J. had the Pan roasted turbot with Thai scented purée and crab & ginger tortellini, I had a fillet of beef so tender I could but it with a knife. I finished with a selection of cheese from Country Cheeses Tavistock, while he had a truly delicious rhubarb meringue tart with gingerbread ice cream. A delightful meal.
